As the COVID-19 Pandemic wanes and the world returns to in-person settings, public sector organizations struggle to revert to an enterprise orientation that maintains the capability to work-from-anywhere while the demand for digital networks, devices, and applications continues to grow exponentially. Whether you are a state agency, local government, K-12 school district, or institution of higher education, you must secure an ever-expanding network without the needed funding to obtain the essential equipment, software, and personnel necessary to achieve and maintain an adequate security posture.

The good news is that grants are available to help you take the next step in the evolution of cybersecurity architecture. The Federal Government is making historic levels of investment in cybersecurity, including $1 Billion in grants from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) that will provide states and localities with significant funding over the next several years. This new money can be leveraged alongside remaining stimulus funds and other annual grant programs that address cybersecurity.

Join Grants Office and special guests from Fortinet to learn about the grants landscape for cybersecurity projects. Find the funding you need while discovering best practices and tips to justify cybersecurity purchases within grant applications.

Don’t let funding stop you from implementing a security fabric that seamlessly converges with your network to provide system-wide visibility and control while simplifying your ability to scale your operational footprint as demand dictates. If you are trying to fund any type of cybersecurity initiative, you will not want to miss this event.

As a sense of normalcy starts to return to many areas of the country, many public sector agencies are still struggling to rebound. Financial constraints stemming from the pandemic continue to put many important government and education services in peril. The true impact is not measured by lost revenue and other financial indicators, but by the residents and students that continue to suffer and ultimately bear the burden of the pandemic.

Fortunately, funding has started to flow from the American Rescue Plan. While these dollars can be used for COVID response efforts, Congress specifically built-in provisions with an eye towards the future. Much of the funding is aimed at helping government agencies overcome budget shortfalls and ensure students can return to schools while retaining the flexibility offered by remote and hybrid learning environments.

Join Grants Office and special guests from SHI as we explore the various funding sources available and ensure you are armed with the funding tools and strategies necessary to implement your technology-enabled projects. Whether you are with a state or local government, healthcare organization, K-12 school, or institution of higher education, this session will help you make the most of the stimulus funding being made available to your organization.

Computer Science (CS) and Computational Thinking (CT) are increasingly essential skills within students' college and career readiness toolbelt. While a clear pathway to a STEM career may be top of mind for many, CS and CT competencies have non-STEM applications, too – from developing models to analyze political behavior data to sound design and production within a music hall or theater. Yet despite this broad potential for future career pathway relevance, less than half of K12 districts in the United States offer any form of meaningful CS or CT course pathway. Students from rural, low-income, and/or ethnic and racial minorities are especially disadvantaged as their districts often lack the resources to start such programs. Fortunately, over the last 5 years, grant funding support for CS and CT programming has substantially increased. For those who know where to look, these funds can provide the much-needed support to launch a school or district-wide CS and CT initiative.

Join Grants Office and special guests from HP, Microsoft TEALS, DigiGirlz, and Airband as we discuss how your district can leverage the plethora of public grant funding available, figure out which of the grant-fundable HP devices are best suited to your needs, and how you can get these devices connected to facilitate innovative computer science learning within your classrooms.

As a bonus, following the event, all registrants will receive an exclusive white paper featuring grant-seeking tips and tricks for your next technology-enabled computer science project. If your district is interested in starting or expanding its computer science offerings, you won’t want to miss out on this fast-paced and informative event!

Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Program (21st CCLC), the US Department of Education provides funding to State Education Agencies across the country, which is then regranted to Local Education Agencies. LEAs serving students who attend high-need schools utilize this program’s funding to support the creation and expansion of “community learning centers,” which provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for students. Funding can be used to help students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects, offer students a wide variety of enrichment activities, provide literacy and other educational services to students’ families, as well as a myriad of other supports.

What if we could teach remote students and physically-present students at the same time and achieve quality learning outcomes for both? We can! With the help of Microsoft Teams Meetings and HP, the Susquehanna Township School District in Pennsylvania designed an All Remote Access solution for its five campuses. Over 200 teachers are using this technology. Martin Schwarz from HP will share the Susquehanna case study, what was required to set-up & train teachers, and the results seen thus far.

Join Grants Office and special guests from HP as we dive into the federal 21st CCLC program requirements, discuss ways technology is being leveraged to support innovative, extended learning time practice, and offer tips on proposal development by taking a look at Pennsylvania’s 21st CCLC application process as an example. If you’re interested in pursuing this grant opportunity in your state, you definitely won’t want to miss out on this informative session!

It looks like the coronavirus is here to stay for the duration of 2021. Despite their best efforts and nearly $30.75 billion in previous funding supports, many education providers are still struggling. Fortunately, a timely holiday gift from Congress has arrived! An additional $900 billion in stimulus funding has been allocated to support the nation’s ongoing response to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Within the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, nearly $82 billion has been allocated to the US Department of Education to make supplemental awards under the suite of Education Stabilization Funding programs previously established by the CARES Act. Of relevance to K-12 education providers are two programs in particular, the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) and the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER). There are a few changes of which K-12 education providers should be aware. Most notably, a $2.75 billion set aside exclusively for non-public schools!

Congress has passed three bills in the past month, appropriating 2.4 trillion dollars to help states and local communities respond to the coronavirus pandemic and alleviate the severe economic distress that has come with it. Among the unemployment insurance benefits and checks to individuals are billions of dollars in grants for healthcare, education, and public safety. And most of these funds are intended to be distributed quickly.

Join the Grants Office team for an (admittedly wonky) analysis of the grant funding included in all three bills. We'll cover the parameters and amounts of new funding that will be available and discuss how these funds will be distributed across the public sector landscape.

As with the stimulus grants of 2008, preparation now can make the difference in getting the funding you need to meet your community's critical needs!

Technology is playing in increasingly prominent role in literacy initiatives across the nation. While such initiatives are producing promising results, we often see those districts with the greatest literacy challenges experience the greatest struggle in paying for new technology solutions that could aid in improving student literacy. As these districts endeavor to make ends meet, literacy-supporting software and equipment take a back seat to things like curriculum development, teacher training, and classroom supplies. Fortunately, there are grants that can help these high-need districts find the funding they require to make their technology-enhanced literacy program a reality!

The Department of Education’s Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) grant program is expected to open this spring, and supports high-quality programs designed to develop and improve literacy skills for children and students from birth through 12th grade in high-need local educational agencies and schools.

Every year, nearly $50 billion dollars in grant funds are awarded by private and corporate foundations – with many of these dollars going to support education initiatives. For those who have only considered state or federal competitive grant opportunities, this means that you could be missing out on a number of relevant funding sources. Foundation funders are often less constrained in their grant making, and as a result, can be quite technology-friendly as well. Further, foundation grants are a great way for staff at schools or districts with little to no grant-seeking experience to hone their skills.

Join Grants Office and special guests from Microsoft and Connection Public Sector Solutions for a fast-paced review of tips for developing proposals in response to foundation funding opportunities, in addition to some of the most popular education technologies available to districts. Whether you’re looking to fund a few devices for a single classroom or a larger education technology initiative spanning your entire district or school, this session will give you the foundation you need to find and compete for grants from a wide variety of foundation funders!

Knowledge of computing is an integral part of any modern STEM career. Unfortunately, lack of funding can put computing and computational thinking education on the backburner within K-12 schools. To make matters worse, research has found that when computational thinking and computer science IS taught in pre-K-12 classrooms, it is often done without consideration for age-appropriate teaching and learning methods. To address this gap within the pedagogy and to better prepare students to participate in the future STEM workforce, the National Science Foundation provides competitive grant awards though their STEM + Computing Partnerships (STEM+C) program.

This opportunity supports applied research and development efforts related to building an evidence base for effective pedagogy and pedagogical environments that will make the integration of computing within STEM disciplines more age-appropriate and relevant to pre-K-12 STEM education. As such, it is an excellent opportunity for collaborative proposals between k-12 school districts and research faculty at institutions of higher education.

Join Grants Office and special guests from Microsoft, Connection Public Sector Solutions, and Lenovo for a look at innovative computing education technologies, the requirements for application to this program, and general tips for preparing an NSF grant application. If you're thinking about applying to STEM+C in the spring of 2018, you won't want to miss this event!
