    Summary

The Indiana Secured School Safety Grant (SSSG) Program has served as a critical resource to Hoosier schools since 2013. The goal of this program is to help schools in the state remain safe and secure.

The state budget passed during the 2019 General Assembly session allocated $19 million to the SSSG program for school grants and administrative costs.

In all, the program has delivered more than $72 million in matching grants to Indiana school districts across the state, allowing them to address potential safety threats and prepare for emergency situations.

    History of Funding

This program was signed into law in Indiana in 2013.

    Additional Information

The program supports a dedicated state grant fund that provides matching grants to school corporations, accredited non-public schools, charter schools or a coalition of school corporations and/or charter schools applying jointly to:

    • Employ a school resource officer (salary, benefits and basic 40-hr training course) of active alert system.
    • Conduct a threat assessment; and/or purchase equipment to restrict access to the school or expedite the notification of first responders
    • Support firearms training in districts that choose to implement such programs (new for FY20)
    • Support the implementation of a student and parent support services program (new for FY20)
    • Fund the one-time startup costs of an active alert warning system (new for FY 20

To complete a SSSG application, each school or district must have a sub-grantee administrator or sub-grantee program manager identified in the system. To ensure new accounts are set up with enough time to complete the application, IDHS is requesting schools to submit account requests prior to 5 p.m. EDT on July 24, 2020.

To register as a sub-grantee administrator or sub-grantee program manager for your district or school, visit IntelliGrants.in.gov. A sub-grantee administrator account is required for any entity that would like to apply for the FY21 Secured School Safety Grant. If the same person will be filling multiple roles, they will need multiple logins to sign and submit documents. The sub-grantee administrator is responsible for setting up additional roles.
