Eligibility Details

Eligible applicants are the Texas Department of Public Safety, municipalities, and counties that operate law enforcement agencies employing peace officers under Article 2.12, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. Grant funds may only be used to equip peace officers (as defined by Article 2.12, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure) who: - Engage in traffic or highway patrol or otherwise regularly detain or stop motor vehicles; or
- Primary responders who respond directly to calls for assistance from the public.
All applications submitted by local law enforcement agencies/offices must be submitted by a unit of government affiliated with the agency, including an authorizing resolution from that unit of government. For example, police departments must apply under their municipal government, and community supervision and corrections departments, district attorneys, and judicial districts must apply through their affiliated county government (or one of the counties, in the case of agencies that serve more than one county).
Deadline Details

Applications are to be submitted by February 9, 2023 by 5pm CST. Similar deadlines are anticipated annually.
Award Details

Approximately $6,000,000 is anticipated to be available in total funding for FY24. There is no minimum or maximum request under this program, however, applicants should consider the overall spending cap and CJD's desire to provide resources to as many departments as possible. Cost match of 25% is required. Project period is 12 months, beginning September 1, 2023.
