The Minnesota Department of Education makes this funding available to Minnesota school districts and charter schools to encourage low-income and other underserved students to participate in advanced placement and international baccalaureate STEM programs.
A grant recipient must use the funding to complete one or more of the following tasks:
Other activities may include but are not limited to preparing and disseminating promotional materials to low-income and other disadvantaged students and their families.
This is the fourth release of this request for proposal. The second request for proposal resulted in one grant in the amount of $304,852 ($148,771 for FY18 and $156,081 for FY19).
Grant funds shall not be used to supplant salaries and wages normally budgeted for an employee of the applicant/agency. Total time for each staff position paid through various funding streams financed in part or whole with grant funds shall not exceed one Full Time Equivalent (FTE) except in certain situations. The grantee may allow staff to work on extended day assignments such as after school programs, special education services or other projects, if necessary, or allowable under funding. The grantee must be prepared to disclose all required supporting documentation for salaries paid for their employees.
Eligible applicants are Minnesota school districts and charter schools. Applicants must have a free and reduced lunch student population of greater or equal to 40 percent at each school that will be accessing the grant.
Applications are due by October 1, 2021 by 3:30 CT. A similar deadline is anticipated, annually.
This grant program as allocated $250,000 for FY2022 and $250,000 for FY2023.
The maximum grant amount is $75,000 per year.
